Happy Food was created by its founder Gianni Lupo in 1999. He conceived of a restaurant chain which would combine the best of Italian, American and Ethnic cooking in a fast food format. Customers would have the opportunity to eat tasty food with real variety in a restaurant that utilized efficient fast food systems.

However the idea for the restaurant chain was conceived much earlier when Gianni was in Ireland working in the family restaurant business. Over the years he had noticed the “invasion” of fast food chains from the United States into the United Kingdom. Although he respected their efficiencies, their planning and systems he felt that some vital elements were missing. He wondered if it was possible to provide more variety, better taste and also to combine fast food with the best of Italian cooking.

He was so sure of his idea that he decided to return to Italy to see if he could realize his dream. To create the first Italian fast food chain with real menu variety utilizing the best systems and quality ingredients unique to Italy.

In 1999 Gianni Lupo opened his first Happy Food in his hometown of Sora an hours drive from Rome. Although opening with a more limited menu which only had burgers, fries, chicken and pasta the restaurant was an immediate success.

Over the years the concept evolved with the addition of HappyPizza, HappyWorld ( kebabs /
Oriental food ) and HappyCaffè to it’s present day all inclusive format.
